Barbados born pop star on the rise Livvi Franc has conquered Billboard’s Hot Club Dance Chart with her first US Single “Now I’m That B*tch” reaching the number one position last week. This success will seemingly have her poised to slide gracefully into the Hot 100 singles very soon.

The young singer, born Olivia Waithe was at this time in 2008 getting ready to film the video for her first UK single “Free” in Barbados (the single produced by Barbadian production team Classic Soul) and now her star continues to rise with the growth of the US single.
Billboard magazine in reviewing the hot single two weeks ago noted that this is the first summer in four years that “Disturbia” megastar (a.k.a Rihanna) isn’t ruling the dance floors. But she’s not the only Barbados beauty with a sweet and sexy voice: Enter Livvi Franc. The 20-year-old has the season wide open with her hot track.
The Billboard review called the song “an empowering anthem,” and the singer agrees.

Speaking with Showtime, Franc told this writer that “bitch” is an acronym for “Babe In Total Control of Herself.” She said that ‘I think the lyrics are relatable, women who have been hurt but emerged stronger. It’s empowering for women to say ‘no I’m the one in control’ and that is partly why it’s done so well thus far.”
The other reason for the success is the feisty vocals that the young singer lays on the track along with the energetic rhymes provided by rapper Pitbull. Livvi revealed that she has not met Pitbull, but will do so on July 14th in Los Angeles where the video for the song will be filmed. “We received a lot of great treatments and I’m very excited to film this video,” she added.

Franc’s number one dance hit was produced by Salaam Remi probably best known for his work with Amy Winehouse, rapper Nas and newcomer Jazmine Sullivan.

New sound and look
Along with the sassy sound came a sassy new look for the singer as New York based lensman Ron Cadiz crafted slick new images for the single and the album. “I had so much fun on the photo-shoot,” said Livvi “I have a naughty side and I think that the photographer captured that. It was sexy without being overly provocative and I think the video will reflect that sophisticated but sexy appeal as well”.
Jeff Fenster the Veteran A&R executive with Jive Records – to which Livvi Franc is signed – told us in 2008 that Livvi Franc’s sound is very “fresh” with “something to say.” Fenster said Livvi’s has the full package, “ and he should know being the executive responsible for getting artistes like Britney Spears and Leley Roy signed.
“Livvi has the ability …to make an impact in the UK and European market as well as the US”, said Fenster, “That is why we are confident to market her in a global way”.

As of late, the isle of Barbados has gained notoriety for being the hometown of pop princess Rihanna. But now she’s got some competition in the form of Bajan British sensation Livvi Franc and her pop gem “Now I’m That Bitch,” an intensely hot single produced by Salaam Remi (Amy Winehouse, Nas).

By way of Harrogate, England, and Barbados, 21-year-old Livvi has traversed from an in-the-shadows student to emerging B.I.T.C.H.—a concept she describes for every young woman as “Being In Total Control of Herself.”

“In high school, I was a wallflower and as I matured, I came into my own,” says Livvi, who cites Lauryn Hill and Alanis Morissette as musical inspirations. “I learned that being defined as a bitch doesn’t have to be negative. The song is about when that crush—in high school or in life—does not notice you, as you come into your own, you will be able to say, ‘Now I’m that bitch.’”

With bold self-assurance and a musical style that is an eclectic mash-up of pop, folk, and Caribbean flavor, it’s no wonder the arrestingly feminine and powerful chant Livvi announces on her single incites confidence in women around the globe.

Though she’s already being compared creatively to Rihanna, Lily Allen, and Lady GaGa, according to Livvi, her casual flair is unique and her sound, distinct. “Being compared to Rihanna is flattering,” Livvi reveals. “She is very talented, but I think my music will speak for itself.”

Livvi Franc’s debut album drops this summer on Jive Records.
